Barry Jhay Cleared of Murder, Releases Statement

Nigerian singer, Barry Jhay has released a statement after being cleared of murder allegations in the case of Kashy Godson, his record label boss who was found dead in Ghana.

Godson, who is the CEO of Cash Nation, was reported to have plunged down from his apartment’s balcony on March 7, after he had engaged in a fight with the singer. Shortly after his death, Barry was arrested by the Ghanaian police in connection to his manager’s death.

However, a report from an investigation carried out by the Ghanaian police had revealed that Barry was attacked by Kashy when he rushed to assist the latter; after hearing reports that he (Kashy) was behaving abnormally.

The police report disclosed that Kashy plunged down from the fourth floor of the Ghanaian hotel they lodged in, 12 minutes after Barry, who he reportedly attacked with a knife, fled the scene. It was further learnt that an eyewitness and CCTV footage corroborated the claim.

Best known for his 2018 hit single, Aiye, Barry Jhay took to his Instagram page on Tuesday mourn Kashy. He described the deceased as a friend and; added that he almost lost his freedom for something he knew nothing about.

The singer also posted a statement from his media partner giving a detailed account of how Kashy died alongside a CCTV footage from the building where he plunged to his death.

“Good day everyone,” he wrote. “These past few days have been drastically life changing for me with resounding frame of reflections. What was meant to be a vacation with my friend/brother turned into a tragic nightmare I almost didn’t wake up from.

“What I went through I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. But I still thank God for his grace upon my life; and for also reminding me that there is a thin line between life and death. And we’re not going to be here forever.

“I lost a dear friend, I almost lost my life and my freedom for something I had no hand in. I know I owe my fans my own side of the story and same is contained in the attached reports.”

He added: “I want to thank the entire Ghana police force for their professionalism and diligence . The hurtful comments, assumptions and allegations made against me was nothing compared to having to mourn the tragic death of my friend and at the same time been accused of been involved in his death. But for the enormous support from my friends, family and even strangers who supported me without prejudice and proclaimed my innocence were the ones who gave me hope, oh my Ghanaian brother’s and sisters! This is my first visit to an amazing country filled with lovely people I have gotten the biggest support from. To my family!!
