Falana’s Comparison Of Yoruba & Cuban Music Is So Spot On!

Nigerian-Canadian singer/songwriter, Falana is the guest on this week’s episode of Ndani TV’s “The Mix. She talks about her musical journey and how all her musical influences have combined to make up her artistry. Heavily influenced by traditional Spanish music, the artiste outlines the similarities between the traditional Nigerian music and Spanish music, comparisons you didn’t think possible.

On her journey into music and as an artiste, Falana shared; “I’m a lover of music, travel, language and of the arts. I didn’t just wake up one morning and start singing, it has always been a part of my life. I decided one day that I couldn’t ignore it anymore and decided to explore my craft and my talent in songwriting, slowly beginning to mould myself as an artiste. Music is something I can’t ignore even if I tried because I’m naturally musical.”

On perfecting her sound and her process, the singer said; “I recorded my first project in Havana, where I lived for a year and a bit studying music and learning Spanish. Most of the first songs I made as an artiste were from that time and it was just me coming to terms with being an artiste, learning my creative process and perfecting my skills with certain musical instruments like the piano, guitar and drums. It was really important for me to learn to play instruments because it improved my song writing.”

Falana also recently commenced her “Chapter One” tour which kicked off in Lagos this past weekend.
